Strengthening General Pediatric Care – Tackling Common Childhood Illnesses in Iraq

Many children in Iraq suffer from preventable diseases due to limited access to healthcare, poor sanitation, and inadequate nutrition. Under the leadership of Dr. Sardar Karim, our General Pediatric Care department has implemented new screening programs, vaccination drives, and parental education initiatives to address these challenges.

Key Initiatives in General Pediatric Care:

  • Expanded Routine Check-ups: Regular pediatric screenings now cover growth monitoring, developmental assessments, and early disease detection.
  • Enhanced Vaccination Services: Increased access to vaccines for measles, polio, hepatitis, and tuberculosis, reducing the prevalence of vaccine-preventable diseases.
  • Nutritional Support Programs: Addressing childhood malnutrition by providing dietary plans and supplements for at-risk children, particularly in low-income families.
  • Respiratory Illness Management: Improved diagnosis and treatment protocols for pneumonia, asthma, and chronic bronchitis, which are among the leading causes of child hospitalization in Iraq.

By strengthening early intervention, we aim to reduce the number of severe pediatric cases requiring hospitalization and improve long-term health outcomes.
